Cork Step Stool is a harmonious blend of form and material that reflects the essence of contemporary Scandinavian design. Materiality
Acting as natural air cushions, cork’s lightweight nature allows for the step parts to achieve the desired thickness and rounded contours of the design. Additionally, cork is water-resistant, fire-retardant, and hypoallergenic, ensuring that the stool is both durable and safe.
Similarly, the bent laminated veneer base complements the rest of the design with the soft curves, while providing a sturdy yet lightweight foundation.
Colors
Different recipes of cork composites allow for a spectrum of colors, based on the specific composite ratios. This facilitates the pairing of cork shades ranging from light tan to deep brown with various wood species, finished in water based lacquer
Scalability
Two-step assembly process
The four powder coated metal parts mount onto the leg bases with screws, which are then assembled and screwed to the underside of the cork step parts.
Designed for production
Mirrored laminated leg bases require a single mould shape, with a simple 2” radius bend. For the step parts, the combination of high density and softness of the cork composites enable a smooth routing operation and finish on the CNC.
Packaging
Cork Step Stool can be easily disassembled and packed into a box that is half the size of its fully assembled form. It comes with clear assembly instructions and screws, designed to fit into pre-installed threaded inserts, ensuring a straightforward setup.
All parts can be efficiently stacked, and crumpled paper is recommended as the ideal packaging material to provide necessary cushioning and support.
